Clothing
Another important aspect of elk hunting that is often overlooked is the kind of boots hunters wear. High quality boots are more important than the gun, bow, or other piece of equipment hunters purchase. Once blisters start forming on our feet, the hunt is over (unless the blisters are very small). To reduce the chances of blister problems, always break in a new pair of boots. Hunters should wear a new pair of boots on several hikes at home before hunting elk. Always wear two pair of socks while hunting - one pair of thin blister socks and one pair of hunting socks. Wearing two pairs of socks usually does the trick for me. Take it one step farther by wearing mole skin on areas of the feet that are known problem areas. Wearing the mole skin cushions the problem areas and virtually eliminates the possibility of getting a blister.

Types of Camo
When it comes to choosing camo there are many different brands. Below is a selection of a few different brands. When choosing your camo you want to try and match the surroundings of the are you hunt the best that you can.

Treestand® is Mossy Oak's newest pattern.
Mossy Oak
Mossy Oak Treestand® is Mossy Oak's newest pattern. Treestand offers the ideal camouflage solution for altering your silhouette among the bare limbs of a tree in late fall. Nearly 20 years ago, Mossy Oak introduced the original version of Treestand and revolutionized the way we look at camo by being the first to incorporate tree limbs into a pattern. Almost two decades later, Treestand now utilizes digital technology to exactly reproduce the details and subtleties of actual tree limbs laid over the neutral tones most commonly seen when looking up through bare trees.

Mossy Oak Break-up® was originally introduced in 1996 and after some serious changes took place in the printing industry, it has been redesigned. This new pattern turned out to be the biggest thing to happen to camouflage since camouflage happened to hunting. Featuring an all-new, computer-enhanced realistic bark background, the new Break-Up design exemplified a sense of texture and depth never seen on a piece of fabric. With the addition of soft, grey oak limbs and deep ghost shadows for further 3-D illusion, the natural contrast found in the woods came to life in the details of this extraordinary pattern.

Mossy Oak Obsession® offers the same proven effectiveness features as Break-Up, but is built on the foundation of a lighter digitized background creating more versatile blending characteristics in a wider variety of woodland and non-woodland environments. The Obsession pattern uses a unique combination of proven Mossy Oak elements, like the same realistic limbs and ghost shadows used in Break-Up, and new, carefully selected fall-tone elements mixed with strategically placed green leaves and vines. The result is a pattern that offers true versatility both geographically and season to season.
